![]() ![]() Once at 4th lvl get the xbow expert feat you now gain and extra attack and can attack for another +10 and you can attack in melee without dissadvantage.Īt lvl 5 you now attack 3 times for that +10 damage ![]() The you cant have it all rule breaks here because you have bigger AC same damage AND range. The same guy with 16DEX and sharpshooter with d6 xbow will deal 8.3 damage.Plus he doesnt need to be in melee plus he can carry a shield for +2 AC. Its actualy the best damage feat uoull ever get.Ī first level fighter human with 16Str attacking a 12AC target deals including misses and -5+10 :Īverage 8.5 damage per round.Rerroling 1-2 on 2d6 Greataxe. My problem lies in the -5+10 in combination with the extra attack.Įvery other setup at this game gambles a lot of daamge to get this +10.A gw fighter with 18 str will gamble 12 damage to get this +10 while with d6 weapon you bamble 7.5 damage for the +10.This in combination of increased chances to hit archery gives you have a BIG diference in damage increased and you prety much ALLWAYS should attack with-5+10 with a hand crossbow. Hand crossbows also have the additional benefit of letting you use a shield. In the D&D world, the longbow requires no strength at all and the crossbow needs more skill) or if you need the range - the longbow's principle advantage is it has a massive five times the range of a crossbow.Ĭrossbow if you have the skill or are in close range, longbow if you're less skilled or in medium or long range. So why use the Longbow? You use the longbow if you don't have the feat (in the real world, the longbow requires a massive amount of strength and training. choosing a race that gives you LB and a class that doesn´t? And a cherry on top, generally speaking (varies by DM) LB usually has more magical variants than CB?Īnd the discussible one: IMO, the attack with the bonus action on the HCB would require a loaded HCB on the off-hand? Unless you get a DM to make a Repeating HCB just for you and your shield wearing lie of a character muejejeje one less feat that you can use on something else? Sides who knows. So why use the Longbow? My only guess would be. To the restricted view in a forest for example. Many other time you wont have 600ft range to play with(urbam areas dungeons castles/rooms etc). You gonna say with bow you have a solid 600ft range but most of the times unless you are in a desert or sth DMs will give you less chances to spot the enemy due The damage difference is roughly around 25-30% between the 2 type of bows. Also with sharpshooter you have a good 120ft range.Plus you can attack in melee without disadvantage while the bow use will have to switch to shortswords maybe loosing +1/2 magic he had from his main weapon. People who did some damage calculations at Anydice, like silveralen we had a discussion earlier ,quickly realise that its more on how many hits you do if you have RAGE or -5+10 than how big is the weapon die. You get that +10 from sharpshooter and how many times you get your DEX modifier. The damage diferrence is BIG. With a hand cross bow you can attack trice per round for 3x(1d6+DEX+10) vs 2X(1d8+dex+10).Now the boost REALLY lies on how many times With the combination of Crossbow expert and Sharpshooter and +2 to attack rolls from Archery style to counter -5 to attack rolls things are getting Im starting to think that bow is getting inferior to the xbows.
